Postcards

Postcards were used in each of four fieldsites in the Cycling Cultures research project. Rachel Aldred and I produced two versions in Hull and Hackney. One introduced the project and invited people to participate in the research while the other collected data about cycling experiences from interested people at specific cycling events. In Hull we distributed cards at theĀ Lord Mayor’s ParadeĀ and in Hackney we joined a Bike Breakfast run by Hackney Cyclists in London Fields.

Postcards were left in bike shops, workshops and cafes. We tagged parked bikes and handed them to cyclists on busy commuting routes. We received 150 completed cards at the Hull parade and 200 at the Hackney breakfast. The method worked well as a means of recruiting a range of cyclists.
